The work of the baroque ensemble MUSICA FIORITA has been supported by members of the "Verein Musica Fiorita" and our patrons since its establishment in 1990.

It is because of their commitment that it is possible for us to continue our research for lost musical treasures from the baroque era and to circularise them through our concerts. Our work is usually documented on CD as well, since the music has never been published before.

It is of immense importance for MUSICA FIORITA to build a bridge between different cultures, be it through our collaboration with choirs and musicians in Poland, India or South America, to only name a few, or to help local composers become recognised through rediscovery.

Often we also have the chance to present the rediscovered art in innovatice concerts, for example in our project "Musica Moda Models".

Another important task is the educational aspect: Our collaboration with young artists is an enrichment for both sides, and in doing so it is often the first big step for the young musicians in their professional lives.

Project for 2018:

"Johann Sebastian Bachs Wegbereiter"

This programme presents composers and their fascinating works, which were pioneering for Johann Sebastian Bach's compositions, and shows the development towards his music. In a mixture of vocal and instrumental works, sacred compositions by Johann and Albert Schop (father and son), Franz Tunder, Johann Christoph Bach (Johann Sebastian's uncle) and Johann Sebastian Bach himself are shown.
You will also hear consort music in this programme – the entire gamba family, from the treble to the bass instrument is represented. At this time the small viola is still the usual treble instrument alongside the cornett; in this role it was not replaced by the violin until the beginning/mid 17th century, when violin makers like Guarneri del Gesù or Antonio Stradivari revealed the secrets of instrument making.

Projects for 2019:

"Werke der Neapolitanischen Schule"

This program combines works by musicians that belong to the Neapolitan School. The name "Neapolitan School" refers to artists working in Naples (not only musicians, but painters, sculptors and more). The chosen music shows important developments that gave impulse to 18th cenutry music in Europe. Featured composers are Alessandro Scarlatti, Giambattista Pergolesi, Francesco Barbella and Francesco Mancini.

"Resurrectio Domini – Three Bach cantatas for Easter 2019"

This project marks the second collaboration between Musica Fiorita and Peterskirche Basel. After the success of integrating Bachs "Christmas Oratorio" into the service of the six days of Christmas, we once again use three different Bach cantatas in its original context. On Easter Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, we will perform Bachs "Easter Oratorio", the cantata "Bleib bei uns, denn es will Abend werden" and the cantata "Ein Herz, das seinen Jesum lebend weiss", one cantata per service. The Basler Madrigalisten join us for this project (choir master: Raphael Immoos).
It is of great importance to us to not only use Bach's work on the originally intended holiday, but also to include the public in this rarely played music: The chorales will be sung together with the guests of the service.
